They are trying to get a 'better' shot by using the stick...so that's good, right?
Of course, if their phone camera had a sufficiently wide lens, the stick wouldn't be as necessary.

Great photo Mike, tack sharp subjects doing something funny (at least to us photogs) with the background just in focus enough to put the subjects and their silly actions into context.
