The Nikon D1x is great for portraits,

here with the Sigma 85mm DG HSM 1.4

Hi. I am George, a new member. I just wanted to say that I prefer the rendering of my D2x shot in RAW with the finest prime lenses to that of any other camera. It has been my #1 camera for a few years now.

I am currently testing a low shutter count D40x, which is a candidate to be a small, light "always with me" runabout.

Is the D500 considered "legacy"? I love the camera till today, esp with the fast primes: 1.4/58G, 1.4/24G, 1.8/85G 2.0/200VR and the whole bunch. It is snappy fast reactive, The shutter noise is nicely damped, esp in quiet continouus, noise is beautigully color neutral up to 20.000 ISO. A very useful camera. Also ergonomically superb, esp with the vertical grip
