HOWTO: 105mm f/2.5 AIS infinity adjustment?
« on: September 30, 2024, 22:18:03 »
Is there a way to adjust/calibrate the infinity focus for the 105mm f/2.5 AIS?

I stripped and cleaned this lens and it only occurred to me upon reassembly and testing infinity that I didnt know the technique for this - thankfully reassembly aligned with all my helicoid key and other marks and inifitiy was good

BTW, I found helicoids required a really thin layer of JHT#10 grease otherwise it was really tough to turn.

Perfect thanks.

For anyone looking, the dinstance scale ring houses the "edge" that "bump" into the focal range stop that is on the chrome grip.  To adjust infinity, you have to remove the tape that is on the distance scale and adjust that so the infinity edge is further away.  Once happy, resecure the distance scale to the lens with tape.

This is how it also works on the 180mm 2.8 ED

Same method (tape) with the 135/2 AiS.
