The reason for the export models having been named "Nikkormat" is because the Nikon lenses had already been well reputed and the name Nikkor had been popular. In Japan, "Nikomat" was used to separate the more affordable line from the professional F-models.
Mr. Woo didn't mention the Nikomat (Nikkormat) FS model which was FT without the light meter (and the battery cavity) and the mirror-up mechanism.
