A big shout to Fujiyama Camera in Japan.
« on: August 01, 2022, 08:40:26 »
They have without doubt offered me the most for used cameras and lenses, and their prices for used equipment are also very nice.

I guess they operate on a much lower overhead than Mapcamera et all. Their HQ is in a grungy area, to be sure.

Once Japan (if) opens up, I can heartily recommend Fujiya.

As an example, I recently bought an af-s 28mm 1.4e Ed from yahoo auctions for ¥123,000. It was fine, but didn’t focus that well on DSLR bodies. Sold it to Fujiya for ¥124,000 :-)

I typically buy any camera at Fujiya.  To me, the second best without much margin is Map Camera, but 15% addition to the assessed price for the trade-in is attractive at Fujiya.

Unfortunately, they don't ship their goods abroad.  For the brand new Japan-made photography equipment, it should be cheaper to buy them at the shops in the States.

Thanks Akira. I was thinking about used gear :)

According to my recent experiences, eBay is better place for the people living outside Japan to look for the second hand Nikkors, especially MF lenses.  You can find good Japanese sellers out there.  I've bought nice samples of 50/2.0 and Ai AF 70-300 Zoom on eBay.

I never used ebay before I did last week. The 'mint' Zeiss 85mm had excessive amount of inside dust, fungus on one of the element, aperture not fully open at the maximum number, rattling front element... :(

Sorry about your mishap.  I only dealt with the sellers with 100% positive feedback on eBay.  The above mentioned Nikkors and a couple of Industar-50 were bought from such sellers from Japan and Ukraine respectively.  I haven't experienced any problem of the improper description of the condition (yet).

When I buy effect pedals on eBay, I'm a bit less particular about the 100% positive feedback.  Because the scratches and dents don't matter.

With lenses I’ve been pretty lucky with eBay. I did get a 105mm micro-nikkor which had very stiff action due to old grease, but often what I buy from Japan is in great condition.

I bought the lens from Quebec Canada. That was my first ebay purchase ever. I see zillions of stuffs from Japan, but I am not patient enough to wait for shipping. I might try that in the future.

Good to know! I think the ETS in the ads are over estimated a bit and the real shipping can be much faster.
