Hawk pursuing Kite
« on: July 15, 2019, 14:07:18 »
We went out to shoot kites this weekend. Turns out we weren't the only ones out to "get" them.

Armando & Peter- Thank you very much. The D500 and 300mm f/4 PF are a great combination.

Very well timed - the last image - looks like the Kite is pursuing the Hawk. I certainly can agree about that body-lens combination.

Well captured!  Who won the fight?

Not sure, they flew behind some trees and I lost sight of them. I'd be very surprised if the hawk was able to catch the kite, they are one of the most erratic flyers I've tried to photograph.

I am impressed by how close you got, I am using my 2-500 on a D500, and all I normally get is small dots of birds.
Yours are very detailed and sharp, well captured.

Bent- I get plenty of those “small dots” myself. Can’t seem to resist taking them even though I know they won’t be useable. Probably 80% of the shots I take are in that category or are so off center they won’t be useable. It’s the other 20% that keep me going back for more.  So, hang in there, look for places they forage or nest and you might find you get more useable images, but you will still probably find you will need to cull out most of your images no matter what. I’m just happy I no longer have to buy film! If you ever decide to visit Florida, let me know and I will take you to some of my favorite bird shooting spots. April is a good month because many of the birds are on the nest and so are concentrated in a small area.
