Hand drawn? You mean the passengers themselves pull the rope to get the ferry to the other side?

The crew by the ropes pull the ferry across. Did I go over? No way! The area on the other side is known as "la Frontera Chica". And has been the scene of some of the worst drug cartel violence in Mexico since December, 2009, the last time I've been across. Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas are battling it out. Many of the villages have become depopulated.

Wow, that's bad! Johannesburg is often called the "crime capital of the world", but sometimes I wonder.

Photograph is from the U.S. Side. There are immigration offices on both sides. Even though I did not cross, had to show passport at U.S. Customs.

Ugly times there
I noticed you're using a D80, good to see they are still in use, it was my first DSLR and it served me well while I had it.
