Lack of attention using my new 35/1.8 DX

The room was pretty dark, a small desk lamp unseen, to the left. My wife was on the phone, and I decided to grab a snap with my D7200 and new 35/1.8 to see what it would produce. Should have put my brain in gear first, because I forgot to open the lens up, and wound shooting at 6.3 instead of 2.2, or so. The result was more DOF than I needed and an image @ISO 8000, which was pretty noisy. I opened the image in LR CC, then used Luminar to de-noise. Below is the result of my haste to shoot, let the comments begin.

Needless to say, you got the shot:  It's in focus, and looks realistic. 
Beyond that, is there any aspect of it that you want opinions about?
I'd be curious to see that lens' capabilities. 
You mentioned that you had intended to shoot at a wider aperture. 
Why not do an aperture series on several different subjects to explore how the qualities of that lens at different apertures can be exploited? 
A tripod mounted camera would make frame to frame comparisons easier.

Thanks for the suggestions, Keith, good ones. I'll be getting my new head and clamp for my monopod in the next few days, no tracking number yet, so I'll try an aperture adventure with it and the tripod. I think I'm going to like the 35/1.8 DX.

As for the image, it just strikes me oddly, and I can't put my finger on it. I was surprised that Luminar got rid of as much noise as it did.
