People of the Maasai Mara
« on: September 26, 2018, 14:17:11 »
During a recent trip to Kenya and Tanzania, we visited a small village on the edge of the Maasai Mara nature reserve. The women of the village make and sell jewellery and handicrafts to raise money for their village and its school, and we were more than happy to buy from them. We were greeted by some of the men from the village in traditional dress.

The villagers agreed to be photographed, but I mostly used a 300/4 lens to avoid poking a camera into their faces.

I love these colours and the faces of the locals.

(But would not like to be on the receiving end of their weaponry!)

some fabulous colours, textures and character captured in these images. Some of the close portraits have beautiful backgrounds as well. Very nice work.

As Akira has suggested, please let us see some more if you have others.

Thanks, Hugh. They are lovely people.

I would not take a lot of convincing to stay well away if they wanted a live target to practice on. These spears are heavy and sharp, and the men are pretty accurate with them. This is the result of practicing on a tree about 10 metres away!

Thanks, Frank and Armando.

Brent - thank you. I have been following your images from South Africa with a good deal of interest. The wildlife in Africa is endlessly fascinating.

Fons - sure, will post more shortly, including some of the girls. But wait - I have already posted a couple of the girls (#4 and #6). Unfortunately though, the girls were much more shy than the men.

Akira and Mongo - many thanks you for your comments. These were processed in Camera Raw/PS, using Huelight profiles. Here are a few more:

Mike, what I enjoy the most here is the friendly interaction between you and Maasai people.  Thank you for the additional images.
