Here is a photo of a sunrise in Joshua Tree National Park in California.

Maybe a little too much empty black space?
Probably would have used a lower angle for this shot but maybe the composition could be improved with the horizon on the lower on third instead of so close to the middle?

Dynamite sky and a nice composition.
I agree with Jan Anne that the large dark area is problematic. One solution might be to crop away the dark zone,
or
if the original is a raw file, the detail in the lower area could possibly be made more visible.
