The second one is better, but I would remove the black on all sides (but keep the water at bottom.) I tried that on my computer, and the lines and geometric shapes were greatly enhanced.

Indeed, my computer had a hiccup as I was trying to upload the cropped version, and your comments came unknown to me while I was loading the "right" version. Which proves that not only do your comments make sense, but they act upon the past. Congratulations:)

To me, what makes this image intriguing is the combination of several elements: the stairway, the figure on the 3rd floor, the large packages on the ground floor and the man riding the bicycle.

So, maybe I would want to trim the original image a bit less and raise the exposure to be similar to the second image, so long as the background seen on the left side is not bothersome.

Basically I love this somewhat Magritte-like surreal atmosphere.

There is a curious perceptible phenomena in correcting verticals in that properly aligned, the building appears to be keystoned and leaning forwards. Leave the verticals with an ever so slight convergence towards the top and and all is OK.

Both correct, I'll give it another try - tomorrow

I must be drunk, or that 25/1.4 has some kind of (minimal) wavy distortion. Or is it the architect. Aaah the limoncello.

Similarly, when framing a photo, it is recommended to have the lower margin wider by about 1 cm compared to the upper one...

The first (non-trimmed?) image looks all right, so far as the perspective is concerned.  But in the second image, the left side looks a bit oblique while the right side looks fairly perfectly perpendicular, which migh have made me nervous.

For the Magritte-effect (sorry to figuring out the term arbitrrarily!), adjusting vertical lines vertical would work.  But seen as an architecture photography, leaving the slight perspective (but evenly on both sides) would be advisable.
