High Key Mallard on final
« on: March 04, 2018, 03:26:28 »
This mallard hen was captured several weeks ago, coming in to land on a bright day.  I don't do a lot of high key images, generally a bit more subdued and moody, but this one cried out for the high key approach.

D500 Sigma 150-600 Sport at 300mm,  f/7.1  1/8000s

Post:  Crop for composition, cleaned up a few blemishes in the snow, but left the imprints below, to give a bit more depth to the image.

Always appreciate advice and observations

Cheers

Love this - a typical landing pose - but then whats not to like about Mallards?  ;D

I too like the high key treatment that serves to focus attention onto the bird.

Randy, Another great photo. I think it's not just the high key tonal range but also the narrow range of colour on the essentially neutral background that makes it so striking.  I really enjoy your waterbird photos - this one especially.  Keep posting!

I do hope that one day I will be good enough to deliver advice on a photo of this quality.

For now though, I will just stand in awe!
