Fuji X-H1
« on: February 16, 2018, 21:45:22 »
Fuji has announces this new APS-C camera, positioned above the X camera system.

Is anyone here thinking of buying it?

I have three fujifilm cameras with hybrid optical/digital finders, and would of bought the GFX if it had an optical option.

So the X-H1 is of no interest to me as it is EVF only. Also it does seem most of the new features are made for video function not stills. Which I have no interest in.

For now I will run with two systems, fujifilm hybrid's for personal work, and Nikon for paid.

Cheers
Bez

I have only the small XE-1 and XE-2s Fuji bodies, and selected them based on size and the left-side located finder.
I'd look at the X-H1 IF I wanted to invest in video capability, but I suspect that other manufacturers (Sony, Panasonic, Canon) may have more advanced video offerings.
Speaking of the Fujifilm motorized focus , I recently purchased a used Fujifilm 35/1.4.  Excellent optic, but the slow motorized unit-focusing was a major turn off. It went back.

I wait for a small full frame mirrorless by Nikon to use small fully mechanical glass. the D850 live view and focus peaking are really reliable and fast. If they implement that or an improved version of that I can live without optical finder. I can not live with drive by wire in the current quality, esp not with the GFX. Apart from that the D850 smokes IQ of GFX, see proof in Erlewine! GFX TV-Viewfinder is huge but slow and WB is not good. Killer ist drive by wire.

The Fuji system was all about size and weight reduction for me.

This latest model doesn't seem to offer much over the X-T2 for the stills photographer. If I need to use a bigger heavier camera I'll use a D500.

T. Hogan has forecasted both a FX and DX mirrorless from Nikon. My low-light focusing needs would be addressed by a either camera.  My size/unobtrusiveness concerns might possibly be addressed by a DX Nikon mirrorless...if it's not too big.
It is possible that the Fuji focus by wire will get better. It already did get a little better between the primitive action on the early Fuji 35/1.4 against the somewhat more responsive action of the later-designed 14/2.8 and 23/1.4.

Look at the Nikkor Af-S technology. You can *always* override AF *mechanically*. Fully intuitive and the lenses with a longer focus throw deliver really comfortably. I do not see any justification to use drive by wire as long as it is a slow as it is with the Fujis.
