[I'm sorry: this (will/may, not sure) only work for those who are registered or have ON1 Perfect Browser v9.5  installed on their computer or if ON1 Perfect Browser is registured to a known email address.]

First: here is the link, check it out...

https://www.on1.com/free-upgrade/?v=suite

A night a go I got totally frustrated with how slow ViewNX-i v1.2.9 Windows was running. I may have resolved the problem but I started using ON1 Perfect Browser v9.5 instead. I searched the NET to get help renaming something and never found a solution but...

I read that ON1 is changing it's license program and one can use ON1 Perfect Browser v9.5 but it can NOT be installed now or in the future since the License Number for installing no longer works. To solve the problem ON1 is offering ON1 Perfect Browser ON1 Photo 10, v10.5.2 FREE.

Now I'm guessing a little but I believe this is free but a major upgrade with cost something like $79.99. So guessing: use this version as long as you like or as long as it works with your OS but pay for the next major upgrade and we want to snag you as a customer for our more expensive products. The download page may be checking for the presence of an older version but I don't think so as I don't remember ever installing ON1 Perfect Browser on a MAC before. I don't think the install program verified an email address but I could be wrong.

I've installed ON1 Perfect Browser on my Windows 7, SP1 and OS X v10.11.6 computers. On the MAC the browser it's call ON1 Photo 10. Anyway here is the link again. Enjoy!

A little more...

This is not the latest version of ON1 Perfect Browser or ON1 Photo 10 Browser. I get the feeling they want to build a mailing list and hope to sell products in the future. I hope it's free to everyone.

Thank you David but it seems it's not for 'Everyone'.  They ask for your eMail in order to check their database to ensure you have already bought a previous version.  At least that's what it seems, I got all excited for a moment!  ;)

I'm sorry, I seem to have trash my ability to check this out properly by installing ON1 Photo 10 on my MAC with the same email address as I used with my Win7 box. A last ditch effort might be open an account at ON1 and try again. I'll see what I do later.

Dave

[At home for a minute, I'm totally confused. The email I gave ON1 could not have been the email I registered ON1 Perfect Browser v9.5 with and I found no saved logons and pass words to ON1 on my computer.

I think when I installed ON1 Photo 10, v10.5.2 I created a new account. The install probably found a registered copy of ON1 Perfect Browser and let me create a new account and install. I've been getting email on another account. I tried to reset the password to the other email address and the site said the email address was unknown.]

Did you have the older browser installed? Any other ON1 products installed. I had to create a new account but I had and still have the older browser ON1 Perfect Browser v9.5 installed.

I'm glad this link worked for you.

I only had one of their free products since before.
ON 1 Effects Free 10 I believe was the name.
I am a sucker for free software and sometimes it doesn't get used so much.
But this browser looks really good.
For ingestion I use Zoner Photo Studio 16 and for browsing before importing to Lightroom I use FastRawViewer.

ON1 Photo 10 is a considerable magnitued faster than ViewNX-i at displaying thumbnails. It's also faster than IrfanView 64 bit at same.

ON1 Photo 10 can hand off an NEF file to ViewNX-i if I want to see where the focus points were in a NEF.

I develop in CaptueNX-D and finish in Photoshop. I like that ON1 Photo 10 shows Photoshop's PSD files. It doesn't show my Nikon camera's MOV files or even a place folder. I think I alread Have a habit of opening a folder in Windows Explorer or MAC OS X Finder to make sure the foler is empty. I recycle or trash the folder from those HD viewer/browser(s) not in ViewNX-i or now also ON1 Photo 10. It's too risky. IrfanView shows probably everything which I like.

.Oh no!  ON1 Photo 10 is crashing on one NEF that causes no problems for ViewNX-i, CaptureNX-D, CaptureNX2, ON1 Perfect Browser 9.5 and IrfanView. The file name is D800_DSC0666.NEF. If I add an "x" after the last 6 all is well. Import a new _DSC0666.NEF and all and is well.  Rename new file to D800_DSC0666.NEF and the browser crashes immediately.

Very interesting but stupid.

Dave

I have some ideas to try when I  get home.

Is it the number of the beast?  :)

Maybe there is a conflict with some earlier import?
Clean the cache?

The mark of the beast.

I tried to find the cache but ran out of time before I had to run. There is some new file the program litters my folders with XMP or something. I wonder if ON1 Photo 10 crashed for lack of memory and a single XMP file is corrupt.

Dave who believes the number 666 was created for scary stories.

I put five programs that were running in the background out of their misery, that may help

I found the cache and renamed the folder. As expected ON1 Photo 10 - Browse created a new cache folder and cache. The file whose actual name is D800_DSC1963.nef still crashes the browser in thumbnail view. Any change in the name renders the file harmless, e.g. D800_DSC1963_.nef is just fine. I'm totally baffled.

Dave

Other joys: the speeling check in Firefox hasn't worked for about a week.

I found the cache for ON1 Photo 10 - Browse. It was super simple one I noticed what I had over looked. I found the secret to its speed. The program is casheing not only thumbnails but also perview in probably 25%, 50% and 100%, like that so when you want a look at 100% the preview is already there for use, probably created in the background.

I've had no joy in figuring out the cause of the crash. Adding an underscore after the filename like this will be my perminant solution. I may get around next year to letting ON1 know about this and offer to send them a copy of the file.

Dave

---

My computer with 16GB doesn't have enough RAM to run ON1 Photo 10 - Browse, CaptureNX-D and Photoshop so ON1 P10B and CNX-D have hung several times each.  Both programs are RAM hungry with 36MP files. :(

Time for more RAM.
