Pelican Patrol

I love the way pelicans fly in formation,  skimming just a foot or two above the surface of the water, wings barely moving for hundreds of yards.
Comments and criticism appreciated.

Really graceful gliding.
It would be awesome if you have another opportunity in the future, to take a similar shot in windless conditions, whereby you have a perfect reflection on the water surface.
With that, and the far shore composed out of the shot, you would get some surreal image.

I find the sky in the background a bit distracting. I'd crop the photo to remove it and a tiny bit of the vegetation.

It looks nice as a B&W too. After looking at the two images, I agree with you, better without the sky.

They look like B-24 Liberators in B&W. After a couple of cups of coffee the brain should be functioning better.

In this case I like color better though when I had a darkroom and shot transparencies my general preference was B&W.

Great capture.  Your photo definitely captures the magic of pelicans. 
I grew up in Florida, and always loved them. 
I have always thought that they look a little prehistoric.

I prefer the framing of the B&W version but in color.  I think the yellow and orange colors of their heads are important compositional elements.
