Birds with the new 200-500mm
« on: December 11, 2015, 10:51:59 »
Finally got a chance to get out and shoot some birds with the New lens. So far the first impression is good for a lens in this price range. Sharpness good throughout the range and even wide open.

Most impressed by: 1- VR is excellent, easy to shoot hand held so not necessary to up ISO too much. 2 - Pleasing bokeh

Negatives: 1. - Quite large (but weight is OK) 2 - Focus hunts a bit in backlit dappled light situations. 3 - large rotations of zoom ring needed to go from 200 - 500mm (I shoot mostly at 500mm anyway so not too much of an issue).

All images shot handheld.

Big birds are easy. Its the little fellows where a long lens is really needed. Shot using a bean bag.

Nice!  I really like the Kingfisher (?) and the birdie taking off.

Nice shots. This is a lens I'm still thinking about getting.
