Yes, also the "Typewriter" nickname! Michael (my husband) and his cousin call it the "Wedding Cake".

I think the most garish possible treatment is the only appropriate one for that monstrosity.  Yours is too restrained. 

Romans say the best view of Rome is from the top of the Victor Emmanuel monument - because that is the only place you can't see it.
