Playing with the Reflex-Nikkor 500mm f/8

A few recent ones from my 500/8 N (bought in Ginza  ). I also have a Tamron 500/8, the smallest one, with a reversible shade that is as big as the lens. Very handy, but lower contrast and resolution. Then, the Samyang 500/6.3, much bigger, not bad, but the mount easily gets off (it is a screw-on, so-called T- or T2-mount, and the three tiny screws are no match for the rather stiff helicoid).

I did not use the Nikkor for a long time - it is much easier to get good shots with the 300 PF and then crop. But the mirror lens remains interesting.

Love this lens.
I dare say, maybe even my favourite too .. for both it's flaws and it's strengths(??)
(well, maybe a lack of CA is a strength).

I eventually got a Dandelion(CPU) for mine, mainly for the full metering ability but more so for the focus trap feature.
Damned stupid Dandelion build quality tho .. it broke to pieces not too long after fitting .. but I did use it more than any other single lens I have.

Focus trap makes it so much easier on a camera without a split screen.
D300 with the katzeye screen with the split screen is a breeze. Doesn't blackout either.
