Death Valley Days
« on: January 30, 2017, 03:37:09 »
Just returned after a week of shooting in Death Valley. There was a chilly wind most days and I was quite miserable having believed the weather forecast! For the first time ever I had the camera hit the ground while on the tripod. My Zeiss 21 was mounted and I was worried the ceramic printed circuit of the D810 was damaged. Turned out the Zeiss was damaged - suddenly I was recording f90! After editing in-camera after each day I still had 550 images to download when I returned. I have pp'd very few but attached is a sample from the sand dunes. 70-200 f4 @ 70mm.

Lovely B&W desert scene.  Sorry about the mishap.  Ronald Regan was the star of Death Valley Days.

Just stunning John,

Love the shadows on the dunes, background and clouds.  Buy then again I love dunes.

Perhaps a little sharpening halo.

Please post more!

John, hope your Zeiss is not optically damaged.  The image looks nice.  I like the way the dunes are connected to the clouds.

Lovely B&W desert scene.  Sorry about the mishap.  Ronald Regan was the star of Death Valley Days.

The show ran for 18 seasons, 452 episodes. Reagan hosted  some episodes and acted in 21  episodes in the '64-'65 seasons. There were 4 other actors that starred during the show's run. It was Reagan's last work as an actor.

I look forward to seeng more from DV.  I have canceled planned trips to the desert at the last minute solely because the forecast was for high winds.  It's pretty unpleasant.

I like this B&W landscape : nice curved lines, a wide range of greys and perfect balance between contrasts and smooth areas (great lighting)

If I had to say a critic, I would mention that the sand waves are not visible enough in the right side of foreground. Not sure you could get more contrast in this area in PP, though.

Thanks for sharing,

Francis.
