The Leica APO macro 100mm Ermarit R on a Nikon D810
« on: January 06, 2017, 19:56:06 »
The following are my first shots with the above equipment. I installed the Leitax F mount on the lens and works fine with the D810.
I have, also, installed the auto aperture ring and stop down metering is not needed.

Very well defined roses. I especially like the last shot. Very skin like. A beauty.

Hello Frank, thanks for commenting. I have read many good things about this lens, and I need time to play with it and "learn" it.
All the photos are of plants on my balcony.

Elsid, can you give me details of the "Auto Aperture" ring please?  Is it available for purchase from Leitax?

I am guessing that someone must have figured out how to rearrange the mechanics of the Leica lens to correctly work with the aperture control mechanisms of the Nikon lens mount.

Does the ring still show the correct apertures on the lens?

Thank you.

Elias, these images proves the Leica APO can render not only the color but the texture of the subject well.  Mike (a.k.a. Mikes here in NG) uses one and has proved that, too.

Hugh, here is the link to the instruction for the replacing Leica R mount with the Leitax mount with auto aperture function which is essentially the spring loaded aperture opening lever.

Akira, many thanks for the Leitax link.

This is a new product to me.  Interestingly, it is almost a case of back to the future for those of us that are still familiar with the preset lenses of Pentax and Practica days.

Clearly now, as back then, such an arrangement still gets the job done.

I too converted the Leica to Nikon F-Mount, years ago. It has the longest focus throw of any lens I have, something like 720 degrees and, aside from having to stop up and down, one of the finest APO lenses I know of. I also have the Elpro close up lens, and I love the leather cases, etc. A great lens.

Hello Hugh,
Akira gave you the Leitax site, and I would have done the same if I had logged in earlier. If you have bought a Leitax F  mount in the past and you
want to add the auto aperture ring, check with Leitax for compatibility. The F mount accepting the ring may be different from the old one.

Akira, Thanks for your comments and for your help.

Michael, you have taught me a lot about close up photography. I thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Hi Elsid and thanks again.

I will look into whether the present versions of the Leitax lens mounts are in anyway modified to accept the aperture ring component underneath the mount.  For example to see whether there is any material machined off the internal face of the Leitax mount to allow the aperture ring component to freely move under it once the mount is screwed down onto the lens body.

I have a 90/2 Summicron converted to the F-mount. It's a bit dry and I'm going to get it serviced soon, which hopefully will increase its usability.

There are some concerns I have:
1. It's possible to surpass the minimum and maximum f-stop. While that will not break the lens, it's somewhat annoying to not be able to instantly dial the ring back to maximum aperture.
2. Can't reuse the black internal gasket-cone like thing which I am going to guess that counters some flares and avoids internal bouncing of light.

I got mine converted with a K&F Concept ring. Will a Leitax ring solve my 2 issues mentioned above? I appreciate any help!
