The woods around Killin are mostly wearing their winter drab; here and there a few trees still bear their leaves, like this lovely birch.

Like the atmosphere.  Is the frost that makes the color look a bit washed out?  The effect does work positively in this case.

Akira - most of the other trees in shot are either oaks - which don't make vivid colours in autumn - or birches which have already shed their leaves, plus, the original file was very low-contrast, and the main beneficiary when I normalised the contrast, was the golden birch.

Dave, thanks for the details.  The result successfully conveys the cold air and the atmosphere of the transition from the late autumn and the early winter.
