The DGR
« on: September 26, 2016, 10:13:45 »
Sunday 25th Sept. 2016 was the occasion of a world-wide event - the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride - in which bikers around the globe take part to raise awareness of, and money for research into, prostate cancer. Apart from being a very worthy cause, it gives a bunch of grungey old hippies   ;D  a chance to dress up as though they were gentlemen and parade around on their machines. Killin got involved because one of our local postmen is a keen biker but also, sadly, has the aggressive form of the disease. He organised the Killin event.

Here are informal portraits of a few of the "gentlemen"; I may post a few shots of the hardware later. Most of the bikes were antiques and there was one gorgeous Harley Davidson. The sound of that machine was pure California 1972.

Have you switched back to a previous photographic genre from another life David?  No matter - I am impressed with these guys and the way that you have portrayed them - lovely captures.

Is the gent in the second image about to partake of some illicit chemical enjoyment or is he holding a gadget for checking his tyre pressures?   :o

These guys look like the kind of "evil sinners" that General Cartwright commended sister Sarah Brown for attracting to her mission on Broadway. They do look evil don't they? hehe...

Dave

Distinguished Gentleman's Ride? I saw a bunch of bad boys being escorted by two "Chippers" in Riverside, CA and wondered what was up. Their rides were all rather modern looking to me.

Hugh - in my days as a commercial/advertising photographer I resisted the almost constant pressure to specialise in one type of work - automotive; portrait; fashion; landscape, etc. This maybe was not always good for business - clents like photographers who are specialists - but it made for a more interesting life. and I stlll enjoy different kinds of subjects.
And I know Oz is a long way from anywhere   ;)  but haven't e-cigarettes reached you yet?

Ah ha Dave - you have got me there!  ;D

Yes e-cigarettes have reached down here, but as  a non-smoker (of any kind, LOL) I forgot that possibility.
