The swimming race

On 27 August there was the annual race to swim the Fuschlsee (Lake Fuschl, near Salzburg).

The distance is 4.5 km, more than I would like to try.

As a mountain lake, the water was cold, and wetsuits were obligatory.

Black was not obligatory.

Sorry, I do not know who won.

These swimmers remind me of a churning school of fish as fish crowding close to shore sometimes appear to be. Well taken and a feast for the eyes.

I believe that Loch Tay already is, or has been, the venue for the swimming leg of the "Iron Man" competition, in which contestants have to run 50 miles, bicycle 100 and swim 25, all within a 24-hour period, and carrying a blacksmith's anvil throughout. (I exaggerate, but the physical feats required are prodigious.)

Loch Tay, like Lake Fuschi, is extremely cold - average September water temperature 10degC.
