Interesting. Esp the part where you took out the screen and why.
Knowing that my easy to focus D500 features the F6 screen
I am trying to find a company that trims me F6 screens for my
D600 and the FM2, hoping that I can focus these manually as
easily as I can focus the D500.

Thank you for your writing!!!

Thank you Frank for correcting me on the link! Bjørn also pointed that out in the blog hahaha no wonder i was getting dead links. :o :o :o

are you sure that the D500 uses F6 screens? You can try the taiwanese company and see if they have the template for the D500 or not. unless you use manual focus lenses a lot I would skip this because it just gets in the way specially when you are using slow lenses ::)

I would like to add that using lenses that is slower then f/4 will make your screen dark. It is a problem for manual focus cameras and it is still a problem for digital cameras.

In one thread here I talked about using the D500 for MF work and that it is much better than D3 FM2 and D600.

A helpful soul here investigated the issue and came up with the find that the D500 uses the same screen as the
F6. I did not challenge that find.

If you ask HOW GOOD the answer is:

I can focus the 1.4/35 AiS on the ground glass.
no green dotting!

Richard - cool article. I just love it that you try all these things.

Last week I was removing the 70-200/4 from my D500 and somehow managed to have the focusing screen and its frame all come tumbling out. In the course of trying to reseat it, I managed to entirely dislodge the wire retainer. And so it goes.......I don't think I could repeat this feat if I tried to !! The camera has already been sent in for "repair". If I had read your article sooner, I might have tried my own repair. "-)

Just a thought:
Instead of using the Magic Tape, would you think that using a screen protector for a mobile phone(or whatever) would eliminate the possibility of any residue on the matter screen?
I just peeled an old one off my current phone after close to one year's usage, and I was amazed at how clear the screen on the phone was!
No residue no marks, etc.

Sure, why not :o :o :o the important thing is that you can protect the matte part of the screen.
