Milder - severity maybe (had she looked into the viewer's eyes, then , yes...). The tied hair and "clean" makeup contribute to this. The debate over the title does not decrease the value of the shot though. I particularly value the unconventional framing, consistent with the "piercing" look.

I could see how her expression may not be considered serene, but the overall aesthetic of scene is.

The lighting is very nice, subtle.

Mongo loves the simplicity of this image and agrees that the low contrast gives it a calmer feel and less "in your face" look. However, it is hard not to be taken away from this otherwise "softer" impression by what seems essentially a harsh expression on her face. Perhaps "simplicity" or "clarity"  or "purity" etc may have been more apt names for this excellent image....?? an excellent and masterly use of space

I agree with you Mongo, this is an excellent image.  The girl however looks so sad to me, especially in respect of her eyes.  Maybe she is being reflective?

I agree with the above about the girls expression or projected feeling but this image, with the controlled contrast, empty clear space, beautiful explanation of her profile lines, gives serenity to my eyes. It is a gentle sinuous travel with plenty of void to reflect about it.
  She looks concentrated inwards, remembering perhaps, a personal moment nonetheless in which we are allow without intrusion, as another layer of serenity.

As for "Serenity", I understand that this is subjective and that is why I indicated in my opening post that some people find "Serenity" in different forms.

Colors and Shapes generate different emotions to different cultures. For example, some use White for celebrations and some use Black.....others use different colors.
