Summer storm
« on: July 19, 2016, 21:41:03 »
D810, Zeiss 21 2.8 @ f13, two minutes. 95 degrees - a bit warm. These clouds are so-called "pop-ups" that we get in the summer. They rarely come to the beach where I live, but mostly stay inland.

You are out there. You and your camera. You can shoot or not shoot as you please. Discover the world, Your world. Show it to us. Or we might never see it.

Nice image John.

Two minutes?  What time of day was this, or did you have a strong ND filter on the lens?

John:

I can almost feel the wind blowing.

An alternative crop wold be to crop down from the top to go more pano, emphasize the clouds and  shore  boundary.

Hi Hugh, thanks for commenting. This was taken around 3 pm. The storms always build up with the afternoon heating. Yes, there was an ND - Formatt-Hitech 10 stop.

Randy, thank you. Because of the compression what you don't realize is there is a 300 foot wide river just forward of the tree line. And even with the 21 I couldn't capture the cloud uprising at the top of the exposure. I suppose it is one of those images where you had to be there.
Regards,
John

John, good to see your post again after some hiatus?

Anyway, this two-minites exposure looks very interesting.  The grasses in the foreground and the yachts in the distance looks pretty still for such a long time, while the what-you-call pop-ups are not terribly smeared.

In a nutshell, I like it!

Thank you Elsa and Akira for your kind comments. I haven't been shooting my Nikon because I bought a Leica S and have been learning it. However, I leave next Friday for Vancouver and Seattle for two weeks and I'm taking a "light" kit of the D810, 70-200 f4 and Zeiss 50 Makro. I intend on doing several whale watching excursions and whatever else the region holds. My first and probably only trip to this region. My niece's wedding in Seattle opened up the opportunity so my wife and I are making a mini vacation out of it.

John, hope you enjoy your trip to the northern west coast.  Also, I'd like to see your images with Leica S2.  Please share them here!
