First hummer this year
« on: April 28, 2016, 15:07:47 »
I shot this a couple of days ago.  It's not very good since I haven't shot any since last season.  [img]

You are on the right track. Now, follow the general advice and move in closer ....

(and I know how these creatures rapidly flitter around, tried my hand on suchlike a few times with moderate luck)

I'm only about 15 feet away now.  I could use my Nik 300mm f/4 lens instead and possibly move a hair closer.

You might consider acquiring a TC to go with the 300/4.  It will preserve the minimum focusing distance of the lens but add more magnification at that distance.

I've had pretty good results with TC's on that lens chasing butterflies, so imagine it would work as well on hummers.

I just got a new Tamron 70-300mm lens in the mail yesterday and shot a few pictures of the hummingbird.  This was the best of the few I shot.
