Glad to be of any assistance.I swapped the factory HK-31 to HK-19 after had field tested that it in practice deserved the nickname "rain collector". Or sleet and snow in my case. The hood filled quickly that's for sure. The much narrower HK-19 neatly escapes the problem. I had the HK-19 on my 300/2.8 at the time and just moved the hood over. Then a few days later, I returned the HK-31 to my dealer stating it was 'unusable' and got it replaced with another HK-19 at no extra cost. The HK-30 is exactly the same as HK-19 but in carbon fibre material.
If the HK-19 is much narrower I suppose it's not possible to reverse it over the lens for storage when not in use? Maybe that's why Nikon designed the HK-31 too wide. My HK-31 has also collected snow
