Feasibility of adapting Pentax 6x7 lenses to Nikon
« on: March 14, 2016, 15:48:32 »
Hi all.

I'm curious about mounting some Pentax 6x7 lenses on my D810, ones I still use for B&W photography...

I know they probably won't be incredibly sharp, especially not the much older 6x7 150mm f/2.8 that isn't super sharp on 6x7, but thats not really the point. I'm hoping someone here has done this, and has tinkered a bit. The adapter, considering the ailing currency of this country, isn't quite priced to what I consider a consumable.

What are your thoughts? Anyone have sample images of something similar?

Thanks in advance.

[EDIT]
The three lenses I own are;
SMC 67 55mm f/4
SMC Takumar 6x7 105mm f/2.4
SMC Takumar 6x7 150mm f/2.8

...and all three macro extension tubes

If you go to eBay and type:

Adapter Nikon F Pentax 6x7

They are manual stop down use only with the adapter,,,

They are huge lenses on the D810 I would recommend to use the grip to balance it better ;)

I have used those lenses but on 6x7,,,

Yeah, I wish I had their larger Teles. They are great lenses.

The adapter I am aiming for has a tripod collar built in, and I really don't mind the stop down metering. I'm just curious what to expect optically...

I recall relaying on this page for a very short information on the various 6X7 lenses

http://antiquecameras.net/pentax6x7lenses.html

The best of them where/are high-end optics so my guess would be that they will perform very good - do look at the list and check up on how your lenses are rated,,, and do try to lock them down on a steady tripod,,,

Locking forward to some images ;)

Unless you already have a quite long lens like Erik's 400/4.0 or 120mm macro, I don't think it would be worth the effort.

You can buy Ai(s)135/2.8, Ai(s)105/2.5 or Ai micro 55/3.5 for relatively low prices, and they should perform better and be much more comfortable to use.

I can vouch for the 105/2.5 AI or Ais, 135/2.8 Ai or Ais. Two more Nikkors to consider are the 135/3.5 AI and 180/2.8 Ais.

Erik, thanks. Yeah, those ratings generally ring true, but are applicable for 6x7 film, which can't really be transferred over to how the same lens performs on 35mm systems.

I also don't need any lenses in this area, although a 150 or 200mm would be nice. The adapter is cheaper than either lenses suggested, and I'm not really interested in another Nikkor, since I'm well covered in the 50-100mm range. Maybe it's simply not worth it, although my curiosity is not helping and I have not found many resources online that shed light on how some MF lenses adapt to 35mm.

I'm also pretty useless at building stuff, but gosh would I like to repurpose my Rolleiflex's 75mm f/3.5 Tessar for my D810. I loved that lens on 6x6...
