Zeiss Otus and Nikon LoCA
« on: March 07, 2016, 13:20:31 »
I found this article by Jim Kasson graphing on-axis-LoCA fascinating and his graphs visually demonstrate the difference between the Otus 85mm APO and the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 G. It is worth seeing all of the graphs, and how the Otus APO holds tight until around f/5.6 and then loses it. Very worth looking at, if not reading. Thanks Jim!

Some things that I note.

The Otus performs in the sharpness and correctness.

These are shot on a Sony camera with a very thick filter in front of the sensor and with adapters,,,

The Nikkor seems to hold up well for it's intended purpose and price point.

The tiny Leica M 90mm Summicron seems to deliver an outstanding performance wide open even in the corners rivaling the Otus. I don't agree with the words of the writer here, he also calls it a Lux - Clearly it's not

Can anyone explain what he means by "image distance in mm"? According to his setup, the object distance changes, whereas the image distance is fixed (the lens focus ring is not turned while the camera travels the focusing rail).
