On a side note - Notice that the front and second elements are seated on small O-rings - This is also the case of the 6mm 2.8

The two lenses are also different, on one of them it's only the front part of the ring that is stripped from black on the other lens it's the whole ring except the holes for the lens spanner.

A friend of mine and I collected these for awhile and then sold most of them.  Never saw this silver feature on any of them.  Our serial numbers ran from the early non-AI 240xxx to 242xxx, to 246xxx, to 247xxx AIS.

Been there - solved by getting the AI conversion kit for the 6 mm f/2.8 (Pacific Rim Camera, around $20). Fitted perfectly.
