Lens Hotspot list - for Infrared photography
« on: April 22, 2026, 11:06:02 »
.
I have a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D - good for UV and IR photography,
but on the full-spectrum Nikon Z5 it's manual focus.
.
In addition to the https://kolarivision.com/lens-hotspot-list and https://www.edwardnoble.com/hotspots websites,
do you have a list of suitable lenses for infrared (and UV) photography with autofocus on the Nikon Z?
.
Thanks, Toni

I found this link interesting

https://luminescentphoto.com/blog/nikon-z-infrared-lens-performance-chart/

I read on UVP that Birna is not convinced by these ratings, the 28/2.8 SE is listed as poor, she considers it good.

The lens is not used on its own, but in combination with filter(s), camera, scene light conditions etc. etc. Thus one rarely gets data that cover all situations. I consider these "good for [xxx]" compilations a starting point, nothing more. Add your own experiences.

The most generally applicable rule is never to stop down the lens too far, and avoid pointing the lens towards the sun or other bright light sources.Unless, of course, all those artifacts, ghosts, and flare, are considered to  be the central idea of the envisioning and creative process.
