how to rid the veiwfinder of external disturbance ?

Sirs,

I have in vain leafed through the menu of my Z-7 in order to discover how to rid the viewfinder of all distracting elements. I realize that some info is permanently resident, however a large dand particularly annoying isplay of where the horizon is, is impossible to swithch off. It disappears when i push the info button but then a number of otheer choices turn up and later it reappears regardless of buttonpushing sequence. I presume there is a magic way to clean the viewfinder.

In my opinion a viewinder should serve to choose the view including the focus point, and nothing else. (Also, buttonery should be kept to a minimum, fine for technical hypocondriacs, (but a timestealing distraction for primitive photographers like me brought up on a simple IIIc with a Metrawatt and an easily tamed Summicron)

 i would be very grateful for advice saving me the need for finding and reading the manual.

Not sure if I understand your problem but, using the display button (left of the viewfinder if holding the camera to shot) should cycle through options and get rid of the virtual horizon soon enough.

  Use the DISP button to view or hide indicators in the monitor or viewfinder. Photo Mode In photo mode, pressing the DISP button cycles the display as follows: Indicators on Simplified display Histogram  1 Virtual horizon Information display  2 Flash info  2, 3 Not displayed when Off is selected for Custom Setting d8 (Apply settings to live view) or On is selected for Overlay shooting in multiple exposure mode...

Thanks, the switch did suceed althouigh a lot of rubbish remains, but not actually interfering with the view of teh subject. avoiding buttonry will appareently not save money since the chips and the programming wil still be there and without a separate speed dial one may wish to know what the camera thinks of the light and which "film speed" it has chosen.

For what it's worth, in the Z7 II and at least some of the newer cameras there is a custom function which can be programmed to a button to turn off the live view info fields. It cleans up the viewfinder nicely, to the point where at least I miss the information. ;-) I don't quite need that kind of cleanliness in the viewfinder where I don't see the exposure info etc. ;-) One could argue that it would be better to have the technical information just outside of the viewfinder image, maybe such an option could be created, similar to what DSLRs have.

+1 for the Zf, which is my first camera to rotate the Info from Landscape to Portrait if I turn the camera
