I could use some larger lighting frames for some Manfrotto Lastolite Skylite frames I have around here. When I looked at what they cost, there is no way I am going to buy them, so I spent the wee hours of the night building a couple of photographic lighting frames, a large reflector (43x79 inches) and a 3.5 foot square diffuser. I will show the diffuser here, since the large frame is embedded in an overhead loft at the moment. It is the one in the photo with the white PVC frame.
I built them out of PVC ¾-inch pipe with elbow fittings and glued them together. And then mounted on the frames I put a thin diffuser on the smaller one (in the photo) and a reflector, with white on one side, black on the larger frame.
The reflector bounces light on the white side and absorbs light on the black side. The diffuser just cuts light. Together these two would cost about $1100, yet my cost to build them was $35 in parts. I had the fabric for them around.
