Last week my wife and I spent a week on the Canary Island of Lanzarote. For us this island feels like a second home. My wife lived and worked for seven years on Lanzarote and thus has extensive knowledge of it.
The Canary Islands are formed by volcanic eruptions. The last eruption on Lanzarote lasted from 1730 through 1736 and was the largest mankind has seen.
These eruptions created the beautiful landscapes we see today. Lanzarote is still relatively unspoilt and incomparable to e.g. Tenerife which is much more touristic.
The influence of it's most famous inhabitant the painter, sculpture and architect César Manrique (1919-1992) is visible all across the island.
Thanks to his efforts the island is free of high rise buildings (except for one hotel in Arrecife) and almost all buildings are painted white.
He also designed works of art strewn across the island. His former house and workshop is now a museum (well worth a visit) called the Fundación César Manrique.
During our stay I shot these images with my travel setup of Z6 + Z 24-50mm f4-6.3 (sleeper lens, ideally for lightweight travel).
1. A room with a view. Our hotel in Puerto del Carmen was ideally located, straight on the boulevard. Nice shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance.
