I was tempted to read Nikon optical history once again, and found mr. Satos thorough and informative piece on the principles of concave variator and corrector groups in the 50-135 xoom most interesting.

By now i look forward to enough bright light to compare my Zeiss 35-135 with the 50-135 at f8 or 11 which mr. Sato noted as optimum for landscapes

Great lens on the heavy side, a little difficult to handle, indeed prone to flare, needs a hood to prevent loss of contrast.
Careful when you want to use the macro setting at 50mm, dont force it in any way the elements may come loose.

Accidently i was using it on the Z fc yesterday

presumably much more compact and practical than my ED 50-300 monster which performs reasonably well on my Z7.

I have many fond memories of the Zoom-Nikkor 50-135mm f/3.5. It is for a design of its vintage very sharp besides being beautifully made. It performs very well with a close-up attachment like the 6T and this approach gives better results than using the built-in 'macro' feature.

A lens hood is highly recommended and something deeper than the stock hood HK-10 is mandatory.
