There’re several “influencers” that got a preview sample and made a short YT video; Matt Irvin, Matt Granger, Jarod Polin, Dpreview
In short: very good.
I’m curious about the price.

Just been formally announced. B&H are advertising it at US$3246.95. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/videos/photography/nikon-announces-compact-super-tele-the-nikkor-z-400mm-f45-vr-s-lens

(I have nothing to do with them except receive their email newsletter)

Launch price in Australia (including 10% GST) is $A5,499.95.  About $US3,449 pre tax (where a conversion rate of $US0.6898:$A1.0000 was used).

So not much different to the US price.  No doubt it will be 10% to 15% lower once the early adopters take their fill!  :)

See here a nice comparison video
https://youtu.be/pLeb9GXPGQU

for birding 500 pf cant be beaten in this price range
in this video you can clearly see that 100-400 has less magnification than 400/4.5 in the given camera to subject distance..
I have seen this difference on my own comparison between 200-500 to 300mm mark and 300 pf  and to 500mm mark and 300pf plus 1.7x ;)
