Good morning,
A quick couple of questions about the lens covers and odors. 1st, has anyone noticed this occurring on their covers and 2nd, what product helped you to remove the odor(s) successfully?
Regards,
Tom

I am not sure about neoprene, but covering something with baking soda and then leaving it in a sealed bag for several days has worked for me.
Also works with 80 year old afghan rugs :-)

Thank you Snoogly for the reply. I may just try that after they are fully dry. Want to make sure they are not wet still so the powder can be dusted off. I have a large Nylon bag I washed that the lenscoat covers were in that smells of it as well. While better- it's still pretty strong.
Regards,
Tom

I found the most effective way to treat my malodorous neoprene wetsuits was to give them a long soak in multiple changes of fresh water and then a further soak in a proprietary wetsuit wash (detergent). The wetsuit wash products from surf or dive shops should do the trick.
The low tech approach for a wetsuit was a soak in water with a little white vinegar added...I'm sure even the slightest trace of residual acid would be good idea for a lens cover though
Edit...that last sentence should read "...would not a good idea...".

the vinegar trick works as mentioned by Hans.
don't leave the lens condom on, they will just accelerate the growth of fungi

Thank you John, Hans and Richard.
I tried a gentle hand wash with Woolite and then placed in the washing machine on delicate for final wash and 2 rinses with the first using a bit of vinegar which has removed most of the smell from many components of the lens cover and parts of the case. The case is being stubborn of course. I just bought a lens with the lenscoat on it. I am assuming it is wetsuit smell but it could be house, smoke or hell even animal scent (that hunters use). Can't quite place it, bit it is strong and musky

Tom

I purchased a product called Sink the Stink (wetsuit cleaner) which has enzymes. So far the Neoprene smells brand new as does much of the camera bag that the lens was/is stored in.
