Title: Theme - Withered flowers
Post by: HCS on March 26, 2021, 21:49:01
While fresh flowers are really nice, i kinda like to photograph them when they've withered a bit. Only thing i have to make sure of is to do this before my wife throws them out  ;D

So, i thought ... let's make a theme out of this  8)

They may not necessarily be withered because of the abundance of water.

I was planning to add flowers in this condition -and beyond- to the death and decay section (which regarded mainly humans and animals), but then since you created this thread, I will put my additions here.
Congrats for the idea!

Here's a recent one (2021-03-26), from one of the strolls on the hilly slopes around my hometown Bologna

In this area we usually see the first daffodils bloom about the 5th to 15th of February. Despite being a bit late this year the flowers were killed by a record frost (though the plants have survived.)

Caper flowers

Capers are an essential ingredient in some pizzas, and also in some pasta sauces

But they are collected from the plants before the blooming of the flowers.
This one escaped collection, and it's almost at the fruit stage: in a couple of days the petals will fly away, and a green cherry-like fruit will develop.
There are at least three ready-to-pick capers underneath the flower.

A rose, not totally withered yet, but "withering". Had to shoot it now, otherwise my wife throws it out  :o

Great find Akira. I must have missed this one, as i hadn't seen it before.

It's difficult to find withered/withering flowers around the house. Usually they've been "cleaned up" by my wife before i can get to them. Found an example outdoors in the garden. I believe it is a Schlumbergera truncata, if i'm not mistake in English a.k.a. Christmas Cactus, Crab Cactus, False Christmas Cactus.

Foreground: withered, background: fresh one

Thank you, Hans.  As noted, I found this right after the downpour.  I was fascinated by the the bright pink and green against the dark background of the wet asphalt.
