Title: On the trail of St Ansel
Post by: David Paterson on March 24, 2021, 19:05:08
I believe some other guy may have shot some stuff around this location - pity I didn't catch up to him when I was over in California - I maybe could have told him what he was doing wrong . . .

David, always nice to see your images--and this one brought back a memory.

When I was a child, a long time ago, my grandfather had a ranch about 30 miles outside the park--so I sometimes was able to visit. Not far from this this "location" I once saw an older white-bearded "guy" with a large view camera on a tripod patiently waiting the light, and even then I imagined it was that "guy". I'll never know for sure but I like to imagine it was. I'm sure though--he, whoever he was, could have told me what I was doing wrong with my little camera...

Welcome back, Dave!  Hope you are staying safe.

The image looks full of atmosphere.  The amount of the mist looks just about right to me.  Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, all - It is always nice to come home to NG. It's difficult for me to make new work, and I am not keen on posting old work. This is why I haven't been posting. The Yosemite image was shot in 1996 - 25 years ago!

Hi David - great image.  Missed this in March when you posted it here.

For me, the mist produces a nicely balanced image sitting between the purity of Ansel's iconic B&W renditions and the clean colours of digital or good modern film emulsions.

I hope that your oncoming Scottish summer will enable you to get out again with your camera.
