Dear Community,
The Crew are thinking about going to The Black Forrest (Schwarzwald) in South-West Germany.
It is centrally positioned in Europe, so most European members would be able to join with ease.
The dates that we propose are 25-30 September 2015.
We would like to know the following:
1. How many of you are interested?
2. Does anybody know of a nice lodging area in Schwarzwald?
3. Do we have any insiders/locals among us that know the region and can help with the organisation?
4. Any other ideas that spring to mind are welcome.
Personally, I am looking forward to it already!
-
Well, I am ON!
-
1. Me!
2. Never been there, so
3. not an insider but could help out with the communication with non-English-speaking natives.
4. Well, I do like this idea.
:)
-
1. Yes interested.
2. I have been a couple of times in Freiburg, which is easily reached by public transportation. The City itself is very interesting, Gothic church, Bächle, university, hot micro climate, breweries and forms a perfect base to visit other 'Scharzwald' highlights.
3. I do not know any locals, but assistance is always possible. ;)
-
Would love to go but I don't think I can make it this time :(
-
This is just a starter for future events. I'm pretty sure there will be an NG event in Scotland either spring or autumn 2016, for example. More will come. People are most welcome to post suggestions and ideas.
-
Would love to go but I don't think I can make it this time :(
The general idea is to have a NG trip every spring and autumn to varying places, as mentioned Scotland is already on the radar for next year for one of those slots :)
-
I will be joining and hope to meet some old friends as well as making some new ones :)
-
See what I can do.
It is just before the School holidays and I do not intend to bring my kids, although a kid friendly event would surely be a great idea too...
-
It's a 99% probability of my arriving "shaken, not stirred" after riding with Jan Anne and his BMW from the Netherlands ...
-
I will try to behave this time while driving ;)
-
Now that moves the probability of attendance up a notch to 99.9% :D
-

John, would you happen to know of any accommodation in Freiburg?
Nothing fancy and expensive...
-
Depending of the size of the group and availability, maybe this could be something?
http://www.eos-allerheiligen.de/unterkuenfte/loewenherz
It's next to a national park and some monestary ruins. Don't know about internet but if you guys think this could be okay, I'm happy to call them.

Not particularly at this moment, but the Local Tourist Information supplies a lot of options. http://www.freiburg.de/pb/,Lde/225803.html (http://www.freiburg.de/pb/,Lde/225803.html)
There are several ways to approach the Black Forest. From North to South the Black Forest is on a uplifted area with little difference between valley and top, and heavily forested, especially the North. It does not have spectular views and so.
The parts close to the Rhine Valley have the highest difference between valley and mountain from which Schauinsland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schauinsland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schauinsland) is most famous. The capital Freiburg is the entrance to a more 'friendly' middle part towards the Eastern direction.
From a Photographic point of view, it depends on the wishlist anyone has. Smusesuse's idea sounds nice too, it's located in the Northern part.
Here some detailed information about the Black Forest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Forest (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Forest)
-
John, we are only interested in castles ;)
Actually, we just want to get together!
Photo opportunities are everywhere around us.
I am easy in that sense, give me a donkey or a flower and I am happy to shoot all day long...
So the list of participants:
1. Andrew
2. John Geerts
3. Smusesuse
4. The Crew
Would anybody else like to join the list, so that we can start booking accommodation?
The idea is to gather Friday afternoon 25 September and laugh about life until Wednesday 30 September.
-
I am interested, but have to sort out a date clash first.
-
1. Andrew
2. John Geerts
3. Smusesuse
4. The Crew
5. Bez
Who will be 6th...
-
And here I though the Team counted for more than 1 person?
-
1. Andrew
2. John Geerts
3. Smusesuse
4. Bjørn R.
5. Erik lund
6. Jan Anne
7. Jakov Minic
8. Bez

Really looking forward to hanging out with old and new friends :)
-
Expect an announcement about venue etc. coming soon. Behind-the-curtain work is in progress ....
-
As Bjørn already announced, we will be staying from 25-30 September 2015 in Freiburg, Germany, here:
http://www.bierhaeusle.de/english/home-english.html
The accommodation can also be found on Booking.com if you like:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/bierhausle-restaurant.en-gb.html?sid=a6d5efc4f97ac7c5a94aba0337037a93;dcid=1;checkin=2015-09-25;checkout=2015-09-30;dist=0;group_adults=1;group_children=0;no_rooms=1;sb_price_type=total;srfid=dde87b8fea41041d89e5004f62a76c00f7273643X1;type=total;ucfs=1&
The single room price is 75€ per night including breakfast.
The double room for those who don't mind sharing and saving is 120€ per night including breakfast.
We didn't have a lot of time to organise our first NikonGear Revival GetTogether but we will nevertheless have a ball :)
Since we are not a travel agency and the GetTogether is a non-profit gathering, we suggest the following:
Everybody should book their own accommodation using the links above.
So, Andrew, John, Bez or anybody else joining, if you would like to share a room please feel free use our dear messaging system.
We made sure that there are enough rooms available as one of our main priorities when looking for accommodation, so the number of participants is not limited.
Thus far the list of participants that have confirmed their rooms are:
Jan Anne
Bjørn
Smusesuse
Jakov
Special thanks goes to Smusesuse for calling the hotel and using her linguistic skills in acquiring information.
If you have any questions or comments, now is the time to say so or forever hold your peace :)
See you all in Freiburg!
EDIT: 25 - 30 September 2015
-
A small adjustment here:
Everybody should book their own accommodation using the links above.
When I called the hotel and inquired about availability, I made a reservation for 8 rooms. Which means that up to 5 people can join this booking for a single room each. In that case, please send me your confirmation and your details. If you'd like to do your own booking, let me know and I'll limit our booking to the rooms for Bjørn, Jan Anne, Jakov, and myself.
-
Thank you Smuse and Jakov for setting this up, really looking forward to go out in the field with you guys again :)
-
A little 'teaser' for those of you who are still not sure whether to join us on this get-together:

A little 'teaser' for those of you who are still not sure whether to join us on this get-together:
You can tease as much as you want, I already had booked Lago di Garda last year ;-)
A pitty ;-(
cheers
afx
-
Next time, Andreas!
-
Okay everyone, I 'finalised' our booking. Andrew and John, you are teamed up for a room so you can share the costs.
Whoever else decides to join can contact the hotel directly (http://www.bierhaeusle.de/english/home-english.html, they still have single rooms available).
Looking forward to our get-together! :)
-
I'd like to check whether i can also join. I've just returned from holiday with a really bad wifi connection, so i only really see the details of this get-together now.
I'll check my options and the hotel for room, then i'll report back.
That is ... if you will have me :P
-
Gladly Hans! As long as you'll have us 8)
-
Hans, great that you will join us! The more the merrier. :)
The hotel still has single rooms available, you can also book here:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/bierhausle-restaurant.en-gb.html?sid=f76989930e907c812539d5c8dc47516b;dcid=1;checkin=2015-09-25;checkout=2015-09-30;dist=0;group_adults=1;group_children=0;no_rooms=1;sb_price_type=total;srfid=4ab6b51a86e685c4385d40d50ad5f26dfa83a0eaX1;type=total;ucfs=1&
-
Hans, great that you will join us! The more the merrier. :) ...
Great! I hoped as much.
I've booked via the link you provided. Waiting for the confirmation email.
I will drive myself. Maybe i can offer anyone a ride? I believe John said somewhere in this thread he needs a ride, John? Anyone else? I think i can take max. 3 people.
-
Hans, that would be great !
-
I'm planning on going back to The Netherlands with Jan Anne, but if he has alternate plans (after all, he is single), then perhaps having an alternative would be good? Haven't booked return flight yet though to keep my options open for now.
-
You have me, right?
-
Bjørn, no problem for me to be your backup. As long as traveling back to the NL is on the Wednesday.
John and i are making arrangements to drive together.
-
Phwew! Good that i double checked the links in one of Suse's previous links, the booking.com site had booked me on a different hotel. Canceled it right away.
Now booked a room direct via the hotel site, should be safe i guess ;D ;D ;D
-
Oh dear, a plethora of options for going back to Amsterdam/Schipol. How unusual and nice. I'll get Jan Anne's response before I decide what to do.
-
I am trying to set my travel. Looks like I'll be in Freiburg 25th, 7.05 (am) by train from Berlin and will be leaving Freiburg on 30th, 21.58 by train again nach Berlin...
How it is fitting in our Get Together time schedule?
-
Bjørn et moi will arrive the 25th somewhere in the afternoon, kind of depends wether we leave on Thursday for a little detour or go straight on Friday.
-
Smusesuse will arrive with El Presidente Friday evening.
-
John and me plan to arrive Friday somewhere in the afternoon (we plan to leave NL at around 10'ish in the morning for a 5,5 to 6h trip).
-
Really looking forward! :)
-
Suse and El Presidente will leave on Friday late in the afternoon.
Therefore, I would like to ask one of the participants to check us in and welcome us when we arrive.
Dependent on traffic, estimated arrival time is as the famous song: 'round midnight.

Looking forward to this event again ;) I'll be riding along ;)

... To see you again! ;)
-
we will be roaming the schwarzwalden just like we roamed the schwarzbergen :)
-
Great that you are joining us, Erik!!
-
Any of the participants to bring their Heligon 100/1.6 lenses? I can put the required hardware for CPU modification in my luggage and Erik has promised to take the Dremel with him.
Pipe up. We might have a Heligon sub-event here ....
-
I'll bring mine but it doesn't need any Nikon CPU's, a Sony CPU however would be nice ;D
-
No plans for a Sony CPU ....
Nice, so assuming Jakov brings his, we already have amassed (sic, intentional) three of these lenses. Any other caring to take theirs with them?
-
Yes, I will bring mine too ;)
-
OK, just say if you are interested in the CPU mod. We'll do it on the spot.
4 already and counting ....
-
I bought the lens already Nikon-adapted and it works but I am not 100% sure if that adaption was according to the 'guidelines'.
-
Jakov tells me that he will bring his Heligon.
-
John: I was talking about adding a CPU to the lens to make it function with light metering etc. on your Nikon(s).
-
A pity I can not attend. I have to take care of my kids, wife at work, son at school. And even if the son would stay at a friend's house I do not see how my lively 4 year old daughter would fit into this event.
Online sometimes leads to misconceptions and misunderstandings that are easily sorted out in a personal meetup.
So see you in Scotland then.
Have a great time!
-
See you next time around, Frank :D
Andrew, our Polish friend of long standing, probably brings his 100/1.6 Heligon to the event as well, so we are creating a true Heligon hot spot !! Andrew's 100/1.6 is to receive a dedicated CPU that now is ready and just waiting to be grafted onto his lens.
-
John: I was talking about adding a CPU to the lens to make it function with light metering etc. on your Nikon(s).
Yes perfect. That is a very good idea.
-
The rear element of the 100mm 1.6 is quite large... so if modified for infinity there is not much room for a CPU contact block...
-
Actually there is no conflict as the CPU is for "F" mount cameras and these will not allow infinity focus with the 100/1.6 anyway ....
-

As close as 'infinity as possible' modified will not work for a Nikon F mount version ;D The one I had could not be Chipped... It was customized for portrait work, there is simply no room for a CPU block. The one for JA can of course be chipped, but as a close up lens only...
Put the CPU on a ring and your good, yes. But then only close up.

The weather-forecast for next weekend is very optimistic with lots of sun and foggy mornings ;)

Hi Andrew,
As you can see in the link that Erik already posted, the hotel is called "Bierhäusle", the address is Breisgauerstr. 41, 79110 Freiburg-Lehen. It's about 4 km away from Freiburg Central Station.
Google Maps tells me that from the station you can take tram 1 (direction Freiburg Moosweiher) until stop "Paduaallee" and then walk 450m to the hotel:
https://www.google.de/maps/dir/Freiburg(Breisgau)+Hbf,+Freiburg+im+Breisgau/Breisgauer+Str.+41,+79110+Freiburg+im+Breisgau/@48.0036099,7.803974,14z/am=t/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x47911b63c9f2d1cd:0x93151d6af1bf6408!2m2!1d7.8421555!2d47.9976264!1m5!1m1!1s0x47911baa9723b451:0xd1072174a3510876!2m2!1d7.8024821!2d48.0150776!5i2?hl=de
See you Friday!
-
Hey everyone, Jakov and I made a list of things/places we'd like to see during our stay in Freiburg.
I've created a google map for you to check it out (hope the link works...):

Haha same here :D

Works with the invite! :-* :-* Thanks

Ha looks perfect !!
What might be very interesting, for a number of reasons, and as it is close to Friburg, is Kaiser-stuhl. Some details can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiserstuhl_%28Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg%29 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiserstuhl_%28Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg%29)

Some nice 'turist' type places! :D Wutachschlucht, Hochburg, Erdmannshöhle ;)
Also I head they found a few old car wrecks in Mulhouse some years ago... ::)
We should also roam the streets of Friburg as well as just some scenic lanscapes along Gran Canal D'Alsace - Reihn
-
Hi Sue, thanx for info!
See you Friday!
