My iphone is not the latest, and am in need for a younger model, but I can access all other websites.

I do have seen a blank page on occasion, but am none the wiser as to why. Maybe there are a given and rare combination of factors which prevents the web pages to load? At present I am just collecting data points here so grateful for any problem reports. Seen in various tested browsers as well. If one particular browser fails on a given set of hardware, all other browser candidates also fail. All other web sites seem to load normally. Courioser and courioser.

The issue apparently is of recent origin. That is all I can tell at this moment.

I recently purchased iPhone SE 2nd gen with iOS 14.4.  It only displays the blank page as well.  Same thing with my 5th gen. iPad mini with iOS 14.4.

Accessing from my PC has no problem.

So is it an ios/iphone issue only or do android phones show similar problems?

I logged in yesterday using my Android phone, but was then unable to access any of the normal pages.

I switched to desktop and it worked fine.

I've just tried it on my Android mobile just now (20:15 GMT 11Feb21) and I still can't get past the initial screen
By contrast I'm typing this on my Android tablet with no apparent issues.
Both Samsung hardware & Android o/s (diff versions)

I'm beginning to suspect this is an issue with our https certificate. Another possibility is a bug in our SMF software, concerning a version inconsistency. I'll try to find out more.

Whatever the explanation, I'm pretty sure this is a novel issue of recent origin.

From my PC at work I was not able to access NG. I could about 1 week ago.
I thought it was maybe a security issue. Often there is a bit more security at companies network than from private PC.
I could see the small NG logo at top bot got a blank page. Browser was Edge as I also use on private PC. But I think same issue using IE.

Testing with my iPhone 11 Max Pro, iOS 14.4 .
The front-page is just a blank page
http and https has similar problems with the front page (https://nikongear.net/revival/).
But if I enter the url of, a thread in the address bar (this thread), the page displays correctly.

/Jan

There is embedded redirection to https for our web pages, so that similar resuts are obtained is what to expect. However, the other result you demonstrated might be helpful in order to track down the cause of the bug. I just verified the behaviour on a PC not willing to show anything ecpect a blank page, but displayed the site correctly once I added an expanded URL.

OK, there seems to be an issue in the opening URL.

Use https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php instead of just .../revival/ and you are in.

Why this problem suddenly cropped up? no idea. Will have a look at the code tomorrow to see what I can ferret out.

I tried it on an Android phone and tablet both, and neither would open, including with the full "Index.php" added.  But, oddly enough, when I tried on the tablet to open one of the forum pages by full URL, it did work, but gave a blank page when I went to the home page.  I was not logged in then, so I then logged in, and the home page opened fine.   It's a little odd for sure.  My laptop (Win 10, Firefox) has had no problem, but I'm permanently logged in on that one.  I'll check Ubuntu later.

e.t.a. definitely a little odd.  I tried it on another machine, on which I was also logged in, and as soon as I logged out, the home page went blank, with no option to log back in.  So I returned to this laptop, where this message appeared, with a little note saying "logged," but no option to edit or reply until I logged in again.

Here is what I see after looking up a different topic on Google Chrome.

I have no problem with the website, neither the homepage nor any other. I am using Chrome. Just for info.
Haven't tried on my mobile with Android though.

With the desktop there are no problems.

One has to search for an existing post on the site with for instance google and then it will load that very page on the NG website. Thats how i get in now.

For now, while we search for the bug, add the following to the URL if you see the blank page

Old URL:  https://nikongear.net/revival/

Adjusted URL: https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=x000, where x={1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} (you might get a warning the topic doesn't exist, but be able to enter the ordinary pages nonethless)

An alternative, use index.php?action=login

So you didn't mount a ND-Filter on the startpage ;D ;D ;D

In the last few days, I have seen the issue on Android, Linux, and Windows, using a number of different browsers. No reason to believe a Mac would make this exempt.

I have done a few measures of forum softrware maintenance and for now, the "blank page" bug seems to have retired itself. Will be on the outlook for any reemergenvce, however.

Accessing to URL that ends with "/revival" still results in the blank page.  But the longer URL allows to access to whatever topic, and I can eventually log in.

Thank you, Birna, for your effort.  Would that be the only solution for now or into the future?

Currently this is a workaround. The bug remains not reliably squished.

While with Chrome there is no bug at all (no problem ever), with Edge I just tested the entry
https://nikongear.net/revival/
and I get the blank page mentioned instead of the homepage.
I am not a coder, but evidence points to a problem with Edge in opening the homepage. Any specific page e.g.:
https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=9847.msg167823;topicseen#msg167823
works well also with Edge

As of Feb. 13, 19:00 Pacific Time (USA):
Safari 11.1.2 (2018 vintage) on older Mac computer stopped being able to get the Nikongear main index page a few days ago.  Changing the DNS server on the old computer seemed to allow  "Old Safari"  to connect.
Firefox 78.7.1 (current) can't get the index page.

A newer Mac computer, with the fully current Safari browser, has worked fine all along.

Pride comes before a fall. The bug has caught up with my iPhone. It has the latest iOS 14.4. The workaround did the trick.

Clearing cache of Firefox on Win10 PC resulted in the blank page.   :(

Googling "nikongear" and accessing the top of a thread enabled me to log in.

I had just cleared the cache. Normally that would simply require me to log in again. After using the workaround and logging in again everything is working again.

Ian, do you also see the blank page after cleaning the cache and accessing the "home" of NG website?

Once logged in successfully, I can access the website without problem on PC.

Clearing the cache and then attempting to use nikongear.net/revival/ brings me to the blank screen.

Once I manually go to nikongear.net/revival/index.php?action=login I can log in. As long as I stay logged in then the shorter URL above works fine. As soon as I log out it is back to the blank page.

I tried Ian's URL on my infuriatingly dense Android Firefox, and it works.

Every time I have to do something on the smartphone, I have to look up some polite equivalent of "how the hell do I do some otherwise simple task" like setting a bookmark. No, of course there is nothing as simple as "add bookmark" where you'd expect it.  Oh, you tap the star.  Oh, not that star, the other one.  Where is the star?  Oh, there.  No, not there, here!  I guess I must be becoming an old curmudgeon, but I do not get along well with symbols for everything.  I want text, dammit!

I just tried to access the forum using Firefox on Win10 with my bookmarked address of:
https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php and got a blank page.

Like others I found a particular thread in a search and that came up normally.  I then used that thread to login and everything works fine.

Not sure what will happen if I log out again.

I tried that.  If you log out you'll get the blank page again.  I keep the login box checked (also using Firefox and Win 10), and it comes up right every time.  If you don't, then you should probably just add a bookmark to one of the forum pages.

Instead of .../index.php, use ../index.php?action=login. That will bring up the login page.
