Title: African Road Trip
Post by: Fanie on August 03, 2015, 23:29:05
July 2013 I did a round trip through Botswana, Zimbabwe's Hwange NP, Victoria falls and back through Botswana's Makgadigadi Pans and Kubu Island.

The baobab trees are so overwhelmingly cute (can you apply that notion to a tree?). The delicate colours add to the overall impression too.

A great series! Victoria falls from above is interesting, it looks like there is a huge crack in the earth's crust.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I do however battle with the processing of the second photo, and are not happy as it is done. It was taken into the sun with my D300, and every way I process it it has that HDR type look.

Anyone that would care to have a try at it? I have a RAW file for it.

Great series. I really love the trees, they are my favourites - especially the last one. But I also happen to really like the second pic btw.

Here is one with some star trials over the Boabab trees, as well as an aerial photograph of the island.

I like what you did to the sky, the grass etc was a touch warmer on the day.

Yes!, we are getting there, much better than my version.

Fanie, I used two exposures and blended - so the sky was mostly done in ACR.

Fanie ... Really good stuff. Your images drew me into the photos and I felt I was there. Well done. (Elsa's sky really enhances the image.)

What a superb roadtrip! Really well captured! Very nice PP colors and framing, only nit pick is when the horizon is not level in captures like the falls and the pano crop.

Makes it look out of balance...

Nice rescue by Elsa on the back lit shot!

.

A superb serie. All pictures are really nice.

I like the baobabs  (both pictures) one with sunset and next one.

The last one is well done with the tiny human elements giving a big plus to this pic. It leans slightly to the right, tough.

Thank you for sharing, Francis.

Thanks Eric, those two photos were indeed very slanted, duly corrected, although the haze in the Vic falls photo has me battling to pick a line.

Definitely an improvement, especially for the last image.

BTW, it's not so much' picking a line' to straighten from, it's more about the balance in the image. For a lot of images a slanting horizon looks quite good!

It's just in the first one the water should more or less fall directly towards the center of earth... ;)

I could not resist doing some editing  ;D

2 graduated filters in ACR, one for the sky , one for the ground
1 b&w layer blended in luminosity mode
