More fish. Df, 50/1.2 AI @f/5.6. The body of water is the so-called "canal de Roubaix", that was supposed to connect French and Belgian main canals via a small river (la Marque) and that small and unfinished branch. Its better parts became a public park (parc Barbieux, in Roubaix); the rest is a body of dark, muddy, smelly, lifeless waters, since there is no flow...

The west coast of the US has been ravaged by a series of wildfires like I've never seen before. It continues without relent even today. I am hundreds of miles from the major fires, yet the air outside is rated hazardous.
Two days ago our natural weather pattern of a heavy cold marine layer (fog) in the mornings combined with the smoke drifting above to produce a dark and red light that looked like the surface of mars. This shot is from mid-day. It was cold and nearly as dark as night (cars needed their headlights)

jack, your image ensures what a friend of mine living in L.A. told me. The hazardous air pollution could worsen the COVID situation that affects resperatory organs.

Covid, popular tumult, economic turmoil, a gut-wrenching election and historic west coast wildfires. All is one. What's next, a plague of locusts?

Just curious - amidst of those garment advertisements (uniqlo, h&m...) - who dares to publish something abour dreams ? I guess it is a teaser that will soon be replaced by an electric SUV ad (sure everybody's dream coming true), or at best a Selmer series IV saxophone - or did dreamers actually jijack an ad company ?

According to the post-factum search, the first half of your assumption seems to be correct. Apparently this is a teaser of a new project offered by one of the most popular J-pop group in Japan "Arashi". ::) The detail is said to be disclosed on Monday.

Thanks Akira! Hopefully a few days of the smoke does me no great harm (at least compared to the urban coal smoke that hadn't quite disappeared when I was young, my self-inflicted campfire smoke, or the urban wood smoke that still settles over Seattle when we get a winter inversion). A few minutes earlier, before the sun dipped into the cloud layer, the disk was clear enough to see that there really are no sunspots at the moment, which is a fun thing to see without a solar filter. (A view from above the smoke - https://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/sunspots/).

Today from me a photo from Hardwick's Hardware, which closes its doors tomorrow. Classic kaleidoscopic bygone Seattle in the University district - the kind of store that surely turned kids into engineers, and sent experiments into space, or to the bottom of the ocean! Such a sad story behind such an interesting image - a veritable Aladdins Cave of tooling and other workshop goodies.
Unfortunately this is the same sad tale that has seen so many similar such hardware stores close their doors here in my part of the world (New Zealand and Australia). Gone too are the experienced tradesmen come hardware store vendors that were actually able to give buyers the correct selection and usage advice. The dumb arsed moves down here away from trades education being available for our young people is even more lamentable.

I've loved hardware stores my whole life and at times have made a living through my tools.
But I have to say I have many tools in my bag that I obtained through the internet that would never be stocked at a local store.
Even a set of JIS screwdrivers to properly remove screws from old Nikkors is something I could not find locally.
It is sad, but especially in the time of COVID, the possibilities and fascination of wonderful tools is enhanced compared to the past.
As for young people and the trades, I do agree. Students these days in the US are way too focused on meeting tests and standards, so the time for hands on activities is insufficient.

Sustainability and self-sufficiency are important these days. This specimen should serve both purposes :)

Thanks Paco and Carl. (I meant boring in a way of selecting the same kind of subject over and over ;) ) But weather was pretty good however, and Z7 and 14-24G do match perfectly ;)

Malepartus is the abode of the fox Renard, and also the name of a variety of Miscanthus.

For those of us who don't know about "warme snacks", what's the story Fons?
Do you buy a snack & heat it up in one of these,
or is there usually food in these units but this one sold out???

I dont know if you see them that much anymore theyre called 'automatiek' where they sell mostly deepfried fresh snacks, you insert the right amount of coin money and open the little windows.

Beautiful autumn color. I also like the way you very effectively included the ripple in the pond.

During the initial testing of the new LAOWA 100mm f/2.8 "Ultra-Micro CA-Dreamer" lens (the blurb is the maker's), I did just for fun a few captures in UV.
The result simply was stunning in terms of image sharpness. This must be one of the sharpest optics I ever used in UV. The UV false colours are of course way off the expected chart, but pleasant nonetheless and bring an aspect of autumnal colours as well.
