 the Macro-Symmar SR 5.6/80 0023 fixed aperture machine vision lens is rated for 1.2 mag max. so that last image 3.75X mag is quite a long way from the design specification.  so this was a real push.

If the optics are symmetric, they can stand better being pushed outside their optimised magnification domain.

turns out the Makro-Symmar SR 5.6/80 looks pretty symmetric to me. 6 elements, 4 groups
