Contemplating this as a replacement for my Samyang 14/2.8.
Have read a few reviews but would prefer users on this site to chime in if possible.
My dealer has a used one in good nick I might try out.
-
Title says 14/1.8 : startling.
No, unfortunately, no experience with the 14/2.8...

I do mean the 14/1.8A.
-
Sorry, I misread. I was not even aware of that lens existing.
-
I've only read a review on the lens, so I cannot help you, unfortunately.

Not me too. The specs (and reviews) do look good.

Oh, at least I've seen one at retailers. It is HUGE!
-
Unfortunately the Sigma I have at hand suffers decientering. Will replace it with another sample to start testing.
Meanwhile, here are the two mounted on my Z6.
-
It sure is - it is a monster!
I think that my tired old neck and shoulders would not take too kindly to lugging it around for long.

Sigma 14-24/2.8 weighs almost the same as 14/1.8 does, and its mirrorless equivalent weighs more than 300g lighter and is smaller. So, a mirrorless 14/1.8 would be more handy. I'm not sure if third parties would or could make an autofocus Z mount lenses, though. There are only MF lenses for Z mount from them.

It is big. But is an impressive piece of a lens. The copy I have now is much better. Will post some images tomorrow.

Good for you! Is the one posted on facebook was shot with the "better" sample?

Yep!

I missed that, could you post it here, Thx! ;)
-
Here it is. Shot at f/1.8.
-
Very nice! I'm looking forward for more from this UWSM, Ultra Wide Speed Monster
-
A couple more. Eager to next test/show coma (which is present at 1.8-2.8 )
First here is field of curvature...pretty flat.
-
And another set, both at f/1.8.
-
Super wide with Bokeh it’s crazy, it’s a very unique perspective
-
Unfontunately, I think this second copy is decentered as well:
-
The Australian Sigma distributor has a top end optical bench and checks all of the higher end SIGMA lenses for such problems before they are released to the retailers. That says something I feel.

I wish there was an optical QC available here too.
On the other hand I've started to fear that maybe it is my camera that's at fault. Two samples and the same defect on the same side.
On the other hand II: I have the 20/1.8S at hand here... ;D

BTW how do you like the 20mm f/1.8S?

I haven't done much more than mounted it until now. Will take it out for a spin as soon as the rain stops making life uncomfortable.
AF is dead silent and there is quite some vignetting. It seems really sharp (as to be expected).
Will report in a separate thread.
And...it has to really persuade me before I cough up 13.500,- NOK for this lens...

Very flat field performance, that's impressive for such a wide lens

Yes, an unique view.
