Hello NikonGearers,
I plan to take apart my 85mm f2 so I took a look at Richard's instruction. The lens seems to be fairly simple to work with. When looking at mine, even though it is AI version, it has 5 rear mount screws instead of 3! Does anyone know what the difference between 3-screw and 5-screw versions of this lens is?
Cheers,
Zang

My copy is AI and has 3 bayonet screws.
According to Roland's legendary Nikon pages, the early 85 f/2 had 5 screws, the later AI and AIS had 3.

Do you know the difference in the internal construction?
-
Nope, but I wouldn't expect large variations as the AI range covers both 3 and 5 screws.

Thanks,
I started working on it. The rear screws are as stubborn as all those 60's lenses! I'll leave it with penetrating oil on it for some time.

I am done with overhauling this one! I can confirm that other than having more bayonet screw, the lens has the same construction like the 3-screw version.
