Inspired by the thread "50/1.2" on Z6, and not a bit jealous, here's a thread about the fifties or so opening up to f/1.2 (50/1.2 AI, 50/1.2 AIS, 55/1.2, 58/1.2 AI or AIS, and maybe some exotic ones). Shots will not be limited to max aperture.
This one depicts the bronze version of Léon Trulin. Sad story.
50/1.2 AI, f/1.2 of course. No vignetting correction in PP.

Well, another mental glitch on my part. Apparently the Z6 and Df are the same thing in my head.
-
Thank you, Bill. The Canon FD 1.2/50mm cannot be mounted to the Df and reach infinity???

Don't wanna see 50/1.2 threads, don't wanna see 50/1.2 threads, don't wanna see 50/1.2 threads...

Yes!

keep calm, it's only a 5x/1.2 thread, where x = 0, 5, or 8 :)

Akira wants to win the lottery and buy a lot of 5x/1.y lenses...

Not without additional optics. The lens will pop up here in a different thread soon enough.

Frank, please do not read my mind so accurately!!! :o :o :o

Me thinks that Canon FD lenses should be snapped up before they get too expensive.
With skinny MILC camera bodies now available with good IQ and with FX/135 sized sensors, these un-loved but good lenses from the dark side need to be liberated from their oppressive EOS jailers and put to good use. ;D

same is true for the Minolta MD series, phantastic optics, before AF hit the shelves at the end of the 1980ies

Interesting thread
My seasonal picture, taken last night. It shows some of my reservations on this lens, it does not like lights, being candles or light bulbs.
Df 50mm f1.2 @f1.2
-
Good idea for the thread. x=8, y=2, whatever the exif says. As usual, I forgot to adapt in the Menu
Too dark to focus but the approximate suits me, although it could probably be better placed in the Unsharp thread. Df 58/1.2 at f1.2

Nice shots of the classic cars, Luc.
Thank you, Bill. The Canon FD 1.2/50mm cannot be mounted to the Df and reach infinity???
Fortunately, adapters are available. The most useful adapter would have a thickness of -4.5mm. Unfortunately, B&H doesn't carry it yet. I had to make do with a Fotodiox adapter of positive thickness, with of course the optics removed. The result is effectively an extension of about 12.8mm.

The fragile appearance of this dried stalk belies the ecological ferocity of this noxious weed, Dittrichia graveolens, hostile to all other plants and all herbivores in the places it's invading in California.

Canon 50mm f/1.2 L on Df, mounted as before.

Would some kind soul please explain what "5x/1.2 on Df" means, I'm supposing Df refers to the Nikon Df camera? Thanks

50, 55, 58 mm lenses with max aperture 1.2 on DF, see Airys post in the beginning

I guess noone really stayed with the Df. I never owned a Df for example. I see this more as a 5x/1.y thread
-
I understand it as that :)

AI 55mm at f/1.2 on Z6
Some of the bloom can be controlled in black and white.
I find it quite sharp at f/5.6
-
Since we are not limited to Df, this is 7Artisans 50mm f1.1 on Novoflex adaptor on Z7 (yes, man is reading iPad on the waters edge)

Lovely cranberries shot, Bill.
-
JJ, the second image in #35 is great, but it appears the PP gave the vertical beam a halo?
-
I'm hoping it is OK to post 1.2s NOT shot on a Df. I have a Sony A7RII (horrors!) that allows me to shoot a few different 1.2s that do not fit on a Nikon DSLR First two with a Cosina 55mm f1.2 in Pentax PK mount (not the Porst version--probably Tominon). Second two late Nikon 55mm f1.2. Third two Nikkor CRT 55mm f1.2. Fourth two Canon LTM 50mm f1.2. Last two, just for fun, Elgeet STL Navitar (Space Technology Laboratories) 86mm f1.2...anyway, it's a 1.2...

Ethereal! Stunning.

There a tiny bit of halo but mostly reflection off the fast setting sun. The girls and the old mans hair also shine. Thanks for looking!
-
Bill, you have got your Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 L on the Df working well. Nice.

Thank you, Keith and Hugh. I just happened to run into these cranberries in the kitchen before they were transformed by cooking. Toby, I continue to be amazed by the bokeh effects possible with some of these lenses. Wonderful compositions and thanks for sharing.
Here's one more closeup from the Canon FD 50/1.2 L:

Third two Nikkor CRT 55mm f1.2. Fourth two Canon LTM 50mm f1.2.
I like the Wood sorrel flower (5th pic) !
Great series. :)

Okay, I pulled out my X=5, Y=2 for the first time in a while on a full-frame body, i.e. fp not Df (excuse me for the violation to the rule :P )
Roughly at 1:1 1:1.28 magnification and at f2.8.
EDIT: the initial magnification data was wrong. Sorry for the confusion.

Well done, Akira.

Really nice rendering! Lovely smooth Bokeh

Toby -
Ethereal! Stunning.
+1 I love your work, Toby, sensible sensitive light paintings
-
Thanks, Eric.
The two berries in the second photo show interesting optical effects. I tried to focus on the larger berry, but there was too little depth of field to put the sepal (brown triangular thing in front of the berry), the front of the berry, and the small projection on top of the berry (pistil) all in focus. The photo I posted showed what I decided was the best compromise focal zone. Even so, focus is a bit soft due to aberrations; remember that the lens is on extension. I get a slight sense of almost a 'glow' about the berries, which may be due to spherical aberration.
-
Spring is early this year.
It may just be my samle, but even with this light from the side, I get a lot of glow @f1.2, it goes completely away @f2.0
-
A trick is to avoid glow with these fast lenses, at full opening, is to underexpose the image by for instance approximately one stop, then in PP raise the exposure by similar amount, except the very bright highlights, by the same amount approximately ;)
-
Thank you Erik, will try next time the sun shines ;)
-
Yes, thanks Eric. I'll try to remember that.

Deleted. Sorry got mistaken at some point that this was 5x/1.y... it must have been some other thread. Sorry again.
