Thank you, John. The silver grass was shot with the wide open. The purple fringing in the tree is actually not visible when the RAW file is 100% magnified in Capture One Express. I don't know why the fringing appears when the image is converted and resized to jpeg...
As for the Touit 1.8/32, I really like the classical character when it is set wide open and its warmer tone.

Sometimes it is all right to indulge in a bit of "luxury". To wit, my ordered "Lichen Candelaris" hand-crafted 14X loupe arrived today. Complete with a sampler of Swiss chocolate ... The brain-child of a retired Swiss watch-maker, the loupe has superb optics and is extremely well finished in satin chrome, with complimentary laser-engraving of owner's name (and phone number). It is also very expensive, but worth every Swiss franc I paid for it. The package included spare batteries, dedicated screw driver for the battery compartment, and even a spare lanyard!
Already looking forward to the next field season :D

I´m a little concern about the dark line in the bottom of the frame. It was there for all the images today. Will have to try tomorrow if it is the lens or the e-front curtain at 1/2000th of a second -maximun allowed- Any other usual suspects?

I always like your color compositions, and this is no exception.
I would suspect that the bottom part of the frame is shadowed by the mechanical second curtain. The problem of the EFCS is that the first curtain is on (or even "in") the sensor whereas the second curtain is "over" the sensor. The slit has to be very narrow when you set the shutter that fast, and there always is danger of the second curtain to cast its own shadow over the image frame, especially along the edge where the image forming light hits the sensor in a more oblique angle.
Also, the EFCS may cause the inconsistent exposure, due to the fact that there is a discrepancy between the widths of the slit at the starting point and at the ending point. The slit is wider at the starting point and narrower at the ending point.
The EFCS of Olympus cameras is switched automatically to fully mechanical at 1/320 sec. or so and faster, even if you select the EFCS in the menu, presumably for the very reason.
-
Thak you Akira.
Still wonder if it is a problem? The camera allows it so I guess it was possible. I have use the efc before at full throttle and it is the first time I notice the effect. Will try some speed combinations with clear skies as soon as possible to see the extent of this behavior
-

Paco, to me, the EFCS makes more sense for the macro/closeup photography where slightest shake of he camera can ruin the image, especially the camera is lighter.
Also, the ECFS should help reduce the shutter lag, because there is no need for the mechanical first curtain to close before the shutter runs. According to the test by Imaging Resources, the response of EFCS on Z is about 10msec. faster than the mechanical on Z6. Sony cameras are more benefited from the EFCS in this regard.
-
Because of shutter noise I'm almost exclusively in efc or just electronic. I didnt know speed (shutter lag?) was affected as well. It makes sense.

The pure electronic shutter should not suffer from the uneven exposure problem of EFCS. The lag of EFCS Sony mirrorless cameras is amazingly short (about 20msec, according to Imaging Resources).

I've gotten the Z6 to give me partial frames, with the lower portion, up to half, being black with a color tear in orange or blue hues. Only happened in silent shooting continuous at high ISOs. Been meaning to make a thread showing it and send it to Nikon. Will try to tomorrow when home.

It is a fantastic performer. Devoid of all CA and great performance across the frame. Even extreme corners are pleasant, doesn't have the longitudinal CA and general smearing that tends to make UWA images unpleasant. Build quality is top notch, and the flexibility of having 12/2.8 or 17/4 shift means there really is no competition. I hope to get around to posting a review sometime. Perhaps after I return from Poland.

Here's another with the MSC.
This looks amazingly detailed. Laowa 12/2.8 looks promising.
-
superb concrete work...
"shades of grey"
-
It is a fantastic performer.
Thanks Tristin for your explanation. Looking forward for a long-term review some time ;)

Scary? I think Fons was just commenting on getting ahead...............

Yesterday´s moon was a tough one. Beautiful but difficult. After many variations in composition, exposure, focus point, hdr attempts and what not, I didn't get convinced of the results. This -after file massage- is the closest but I still get the feeling of a missed opportunity

Currently Birna spend her days in Duckweed Land. So many samples to sort and sift through ... I did discover a species new to my country though, thus the efforts aren't completely wasted although the photographic output is -- well -- documentary in style. They serve their designated purpose and that pays the bills.
A snapshot of a corner of my work table aka dinner table at present should illustrate the point. Semi-organised chaos reigns supreme.
I'm really looking forward to the NG Meet-up in the Hague in a few weeks' time. Hm. The canals there have a lot of duckweeds in them. Must resist. Or at least, try my best...

I think that your result is very fine, like the idea that the lamp is the source of light on the moon ;)

You are always excused -- the first time. Do post these in a Nikon z-related thread. There are plenty of them to be found. Interesting factory insights, by the way. Seeing an engine "in the nude" like this makes me wonder the airplane keeps itself safely in the air at all.

Thanks Fons. The 700 grams extra weight for the Sigma is not really a workable option.

October 26. Strolling with Industar-50-2 50mm/f3.5.
Nice street mood Akira!
Is this a f/2 lens stopped down to 3.5 and how many aperture blades?
The rendering reminds me of the 55/3.5 Micro Nikkor.

Thank you, Sten! This is an f3.5 lens of Tessar design. It has seven rounded aperture blades. Unlike the 55/3.5 Micro Nikkor, the image quality is dreadfully soft at 1 m and closer.

I like the expression 'spacescapes'. The moon was looking very 'planetary' that morning. The cool, dry air helped with the clarity of the moon, I think.

John and Fons, I'm enjoying these images of the liberation parade; They give an impression of what WW2 might have actually looked like, due to the increased accuracy of our modern photographic equipment over the photo systems they had in the 1940's.

Ah, Birna...
Today I exchange my 50mm 1.4g and some money for a brand new 50mm 1.8s. First lens with no adapter in the Z6. I´m late to the party but still have to say impressed so far by the performace, AF in both photo and vídeo. I was using the former for the last two days to say goodbye and have to confess that it was hard to part with. Happy problems.

Amazingly detailed image. What do you mean by "stem"? Is this a cross-section of it?
Exactly. A cross-section of the stem of the plant. It is compressed laterally to increase its tensile strength - an adaptation well suited for a plant colonising seabed subject to wave action.

Thanks Sten. AF performance is pretty good on the FTZ if you stay within the 3m-infinite range. Comparable with the performance on the D850.
The lens is wide open pretty sharp as well, very clean images, to my surprise. Extra functional on the Z6 with the IBIS

When you live in the woods, those woods encroach on your home and yard relentlessly. A deterrent to this is knowing a good arborist. I know one and his team came this week to cut back and prune, clear out dead and dying trees and generally let in some more light. Here this young man cleaned up the damage done to branches of an oak caused by a microburst we had last summer. This should make the tree stronger and provide me a clearer view from my second floor bedroom window from where this shot was taken.

Another duckweed picture. This time UV-induced fluorescence (UVIF). Nikon Z7, 60mm f/2.8 Micro, Nichia LED. Approx. 1:1 (life-size).
The duckweed community here comprises Spirodela polyrhiza (largely dead this time of the year), its turions (very much alive as they are starch-filled and will eventually sink to the lake floor to overwinter there), Lemna minor, L. minuta, and numerous seeds of a wetland plant I believe is Filipendula ulmaria.
