Title: Reikan Focal
Post by: Bear Dale on September 01, 2019, 00:17:36
Does anyone use the latest version of Reikan Focal?

How would you rate it for zooms and primes?

It 's a little strange that no one has responded... I will give it a try  :)

I bought today the non pro version (focal 2020) to try it out and see if it makes sense to upgrade later. My main interest is anyway to fine tune the center af as a good starting point.
I have used it so far on my D850 with Sigma 85 1.4 DG HSM (non art), sigma 150 2.8 DG HSM macro and 70-300 E VR
The Sigmas simply could be focused correctly hence no success. I think this is Sigma lens issue rather than the 850 but i will try also D810 and perhaps D500 to be sure.
On the other hand the 70-300 worked fine and got a -5 adjustment on 70mm. Tried also briefly the 300mm but Focal couldn't focus on the target (focal target printed by me on A4). I consider this a failure on my side to give the appropriate distance and perhaps light for the 300mm to work.
I will try in the coming days my other Nikon bodies and lenses, but also my 5dmkii with the 300 L IS 2.8 and I will report more.

Worked today on on D500 and D850 with the 70-300 E and the 5dIi with 300 L IS.
Program worked as advertised.
Results on the Nikons relatively repeatable vs the first time (i.e. -4/5)
Truly hands off with the Canon and a -3 result.

Overall happy with the purchase so far and only a couple of system hang ups aborting the application (could very well be my old laptop to blame).
